A little bit about me.

Hi, I'm Darren 👋

Head of Content by day, awkward creative type by… well, also by day.

My ‘career' began with a Fine Art degree, which means I’m really good at convincing people that my weird paintings were deep and not just the result of me running out of ideas. Turns out, my true calling wasn’t in the art itself, but in the art of talking about it. But somewhere between explaining my ‘conceptual’ work and realising I couldn’t pay rent with enthusiasm, I figured I’d better find a new gig.

So, I pivoted to words. I started dabbling in web development, building websites and writing copy for small business and a handful of bigger ones.

Do I have a degree in marketing, English, journalism or anything like that? No. But I’d realised a few years previous to this that I had a knack for writing. I’m the one people ask to write birthday cards that don’t suck and wedding speeches that balance the line between heartfelt and hilarious. And now I’d become the one people asked to write their websites, emails and social posts.

And that knack for writing had started to find its home in B2B marketing. I’d found my niche: making not-very-interesting stuff quite interesting.

I love finding ways to make content do the heavy lifting, whether that’s through a blog post that makes an expert sound like an actual human being, or a video script that makes people want to watch past the first five seconds. I’m a firm believer that content should be more than just filler; it should be something that grabs you by the collar and makes you pay attention.

And if it doesn’t? Well, we’ll keep tinkering until it does.

When I’m not writing, you’ll probably find me sweating it out in a triathlon (because I’m not very good), on the golf course (also not very good), or painting something weird that’ll never see the light of day (actually am quite good at this). I also volunteer once a week as a listening ear at Samaritans (TBC whether I’m any good at this but it seems to be going OK).

Anyway, that's enough about me for now. But if you’re looking for someone who knows how to turn ideas into content that actually works (and maybe have a laugh along the way), you’re in the right place.
